Amcare is the onsite medical clinic that Amazon fulfillment workers are instructed to visit if they are sick or injured on the job. Depending on the severity of the issue, the Amcare medical staff is supposed to refer the employee to outside care as it is needed. Unfortunately, Amcare staff has failed to do that on so many occasions that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has investigated them several times.
The results are not good.
OSHA has found that the healthcare providers at Amcare regularly work outside of their scope of practice, when they should be referring employees to outside care. This creates a very dangerous situation for employees who rely on the medical staff at Amcare to have their best interests at heart. Instead, the Amcare staff seem to be focusing on keeping people in the workplace regardless of injury.
In one instance, an employee came to Amcare with a suspected broken finger and asked to be sent to the hospital. His request was denied, and he was forced to continue to come to work despite intense pain in his finger, which he reported. These practices are so egregious that some have even speculated that the Amcare staff have been pressured to hide injuries and medical issues.
The fact of the matter is that if you work in an Amazon fulfillment center and you are injured on the job, that Amcare is not on your side. Instead, seek outside care in order to be properly treated, and call us for legal representation and support. We can help you to stand up to the horrific services Amazon is offering its employees, and we can help you to get well again.
Do not let a workplace injury turn into a significant disability. Prioritize your own health because it has become clear that nobody else is.
